Andrei Markov is a Russian-Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman. Currently, he plays for Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL.

He has a twin brother, Mark.

The Montreal Canadians drafted Andrei Markov in the sixth round, 162nd overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Additionally, he played in his native Russia with Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Superleague (RSL) during the 2004–05 NHL lockout.

On 28 May 2007, Markov signed a four-year contract with the Canadians. This kept him with the team through the 2010–11 season.

Later, in the 2007–08 season, he was selected to his first NHL All-Star Game as a starter, in Atlanta.

After suffering a lacerated ankle injury on 1 October 2009, he was out of the game until February 2010.

Eventually, Andrei Markov made a full recovery almost two months ahead of schedule and returned to action on 19 December 2009.

Markov became a Canadian citizen on 16 July 2010. Furthermore, he suffered a knee injury in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes on 13 November 2010.

Additionally, he signed a three-year contract with the Canadians on 23 June 2011.

It was announced on July 26, 2017, that Markov would not be returning to Montreal Canadians for the 2017-2018 season after spending his entire NHL career with the team and playing 990 games over 16 years.

Eventually, Andrei Markov agreed to a two-year deal with the KHL’s Ak Bars Kazan on July 28th, 2017.
