Fans of the 1984 classic Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel are rejoicing, as there are plans to make a new, third film. But this time, the ghost-busting team will be all female. Ghostbusters 3 was championed by franchise costar/co-writer Dan Aykroyd and could begin production next year, after years of false reports and rumors that the movie would begin filming right around the corner. Paul Feig, who directed female-driven comedic hits Bridesmaids and The Heat was rumored to be taking on the director role.
Another star that’s excited about the movie? Original Ghostbusters star Bill Murray, who revealed which actresses he would love to see on the big screen taking down those rascally Big Apple ghosts. Murray, 63, shared his enthusiasm about the new flick while at the Toronto International Film Festival last Friday. So which leading ladies are on his wish list? “Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!” he told the Toronto Sun. “I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot,” he added of Mad Men, ER, and Freaks and Geeks star. “And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”
Murray played the hilarious parapsychology professor Dr. Peter Venkman in the smash hit movies. The funny man was at TIFF to promote his film St. Vincent, with co-stars McCarthy. He’s also previously worked with Stone in 2009’s Zombieland and in director Cameron Crowe’s upcoming untitled project.
Between these relationships, and those made between McCarthy and Wiig starring in possible director Paul Weig movies, these ladies might indeed be starring in the remake. Here are a few other Celebritytoob choices for the ghost-fighting crew!Maya Rudolph
