We’ve got some bad news for fans of the Finnish noir series Bordertown (also known as Sorjonen).

The three-season crime drama will be leaving Netflix this May. It’s one of the latest Netflix Original series to exit the platform after other shows like Hemlock Grove and Lilyhammer. The Neil Patrick Harris-led series Uncoupled is also leaving Netflix soon, although that series will probably end up on Paramount+ since Showtime rescued it.

The news of Bordertown arrived recently when Netflix released its official calendar for the month of May. The show starred Ville Virtanen as a talented detective who moves to a small town and quickly becomes involved in investigating a disturbing trend of murders in the area. When exactly is the show leaving?

Netflix will lose the global rights to Bordertown on May 10, 2023. If you visit the official Netflix page right now, then you’ll see it labels May 9, 2023, as the last day to watch the show.

Even though Bordertown is billed as a “Netflix Original,” Netflix doesn’t fully own the series. Sometimes with international shows, Netflix licenses the series for a certain amount of time, and when the contract expires, they lose the streaming rights. Netflix could decide to re-negotiate the contract for this noir series, but for now, plan to lose viewing access after May 9.

After Netflix loses the show, it’s unclear when and if it will be available elsewhere. It is a Finnish TV show, so it’s hard to say if another American or international service will pick it up.
