Giuliana Rancic wants a baby girl ‘it’s like having a doll, but it’s a real person’

Giuliana Rancic is a new mom and she’s very open and honest about the fact that she puts her marriage before her baby. She is also incredibly hardworking, and went back to work as an E! correspondent just two weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer. She’s mentioned that she’d like to cut back on work, and that she’d eventually like to add another baby to her family. Now that Giuliana and Bill’s son Duke is one, she’s thinking about having another child. In a recent interview with In Touch, she mentioned that she’d like a girl she could dress up with. She also compared it to having a doll. I hope she’s joking.

“I’d love a little girl,” gushes Giuliana Rancic, 38, about her gender preference for a sibling for little Duke, whom she and husband Bill, 42, welcomed last August with the help of a surrogate. “As a woman, you dream of having a little girl so you can wear the same outfits,” says [Giuliana]. “It’s like having a doll – but it’s a real person!” In Touch caught up with the reality star about surviving marriage stress, sleep deprivation and her surprising secret talent.

Sounds like you’re really looking forward to having a little mini-me!
Yes! I’ll buy her an American Girl doll and they can wear the same outfit, then I can get an adult version of the outfit so the three of us match. I’d Instagram that all day long!

How would Bill feel about that?
He’d probably be freaked out! But sometimes I secretly dress Duke in the exact same outfit as Bill for a barbecue or something. Then it takes Bill an hour to figure it out.

So are you guys already trying for baby No. 2?
We know we want to, but we don’t know when. I can’t get pregnant because I’m on medication [related to her 2011 breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy], but we’re open to surrogacy again – and I have embryos ready on ice!

Has it been hard juggling your busy career with being Duke’s mom?
In the beginning, I was so stressed. Like, I needed professional advice on how to balance it all. But I’m getting the hang of it now. I make my coffee and clean up the house with Duke on my hip.

How do you two split baby duties?
It’s crazy. Last night I had Fashion Police until 11, so Bill put the baby to bed and I had morning duty. Duke gets up at 5am, so yeah, we don’t sleep that much. But it’s ok!

You’ve been so open about your fertility issues – did that ever affect you and Bill as a couple?
In the beginning, we faced so many struggles I was nervous we might split up. But we turned to humor. He’d call me “Old Eggs” and I’d call him “Old Sperm.” The laughs help you stick together.

What’s the best surprise about parenthood?
There’s nothing sexier than a good father. Our love life’s gotten better since the baby. It’s steamier!

Who is the most famous person who has flirted with you?
I’ve interviewed George Clooney a lot and I’d say he flirted with me a bunch of times – but that could just be in my head!

Giuliana and Bill consider Chicago their hometown, that’s where Bill is from and Giuliana has said that she’d like to live there permanently. So I think she’s mentioning the American Girl line because it was started in Chicago and she probably really wants an excuse to go there. (I went to the flagship store in Chicago by myself about 10 years ago. It was a different world.) She seems so superficial to me in just about everything she does and says, so it’s not surprising that she lists clothing and accessories as her main motivations for having a girl. Still, she has a job where she talks about clothes all day (ditto, sort of) so she’s probably just trying to give a good quote. And I have to admit that I do this too. I’ll end up in the same color and print shirt as my son all day and think “did I do that on purpose? I must have but I don’t remember.”
