The Kansas City Chiefs Otis Taylor was born in Houston, Texas, on August 11, 1942, and passed away at age 80 years.
Taylor has 32 mentions in the Chiefs Hall of Fame, where he is a member. He continues to retain the marks for the highest receiving average per season and the most games with 100 or more receiving yards in a season (tied with six other players) (22.36 yards per catch in 1966).
He and Len Dawson tied the Chiefs record previously held by Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes with 46 touchdown passes. His 20 games with at least 100 receiving yards each are third among many other notable statistics, and his 7,306 receiving yards are third in franchise history.
Mike Livingston’s 93-yard touchdown pass against the Miami Dolphins on October 19, 1969, was the longest touchdown pass ever completed by a Chiefs player. On December 22, 2002, Trent Green shattered that mark during a Chiefs game against the San Diego Chargers.
Some believed that Taylor should have received recognition from the Pro Football and Chiefs Halls of Fames as well. In the most recent round, he had been chosen as one of the top 25 senior candidates, but when the list was whittled down to 12, he was eliminated.
